  • The Oriental Library (Toyo Bunko) > Japanese-Language Records Related to Modern China

  • Toyo Bunko is an Asian studies research library established in 1924 by Hisaya Iwasaki, the third president of Mitsubishi. Since Toyo Bunko’s founding, it has been fostering research, carrying out exhibitions, and collected materials related to Asian history and culture. The collections include Toyo Bunko’s “Japanese-Language Records Related to Modern China” of the Seminar on Modern China which was established in 1953 (currently known as the Modern Chinese Studies Group).
The Modern Chinese Studies Group collects a wide range of materials in Japanese, Chinese, and European languages. It carries out a collection policy that seeks to enhance the research environment for materials related to modern China. The materials we have released as part of this collection do not infringe on copyrights and they do not include damaged items. Moreover, we have aimed to include many original works that have not previously been published in electronic form. The materials include research documents which only had a small circulation upon release, internal materials that have not been seen by the public, and handwritten primary materials.
