“Repatriated Film Collection [Part 4],” Presented by the National Film Archive of Japan in Cooperation with the Japan Center for Asian Historical Records

               From August 4 (Tuesday) through September 6 (Sunday), the National Film Archive of Japan, in cooperation with the Japan Center for Asian Historical Records (JACAR), will screen a program titled, “Repatriated Film Collection [Part 4]: Cultural Films, Newsreels, and Animations.”

              Approximately 1,400 Japanese newsreels, feature films, and the like from the pre-war and wartime periods that had been held at the Library of Congress were returned following the 1967 signing of an exchange agreement between Japan and the United States. The National Film Archive of Japan has organized these films into themed programs and has been screening them as a collection since 2023. This fourth installment of the series will present many invaluable newsreels, documentary films, and other items.

              Following the screening of the film, “Jihen no giman (1) [The deceit behind the incident, part 1]” on August 8 (Saturday) at 3:30 p.m., JACAR Director-General Inoue Toshikazu is scheduled to deliver a lecture.
