The Kuniaki Koiso Cabinet was formed on July 22, 1944.
The Hideki Tojo Cabinet that was formed on October 18, 1941 resigned en masse on July 22, 1944 to take responsibility for the annihilation of the Japanese forces defending Saipan on July 7, 1944. That same day the Kuniaki Koiso Cabinet was formed, which was headed by Korea Governor-General and Army General Kuniaki Koiso. |
- Document 1 is issue No. 332 of Shashin Shuho (Weekly Photographical Journal), which was published on August 2, 1944. This issue presents the keynote address of General Kuniaki Koiso, who took office as Prime Minister. The cover of this issue features a photograph of the face of Prime Minister Kuniaki Koiso, and there is an article in the second image titled “Establishment of the Koiso and Yonai collaborative cabinet.” This article is accompanied by a group photograph of the members of the Koiso Cabinet.
- Document 2 is a Kokubun Betsuroku that was drawn up when General Koiso was appointed Prime Minister.
- Document 3 is a set of Kokubun Betsuroku titled “Drawing up a mobilization plan of a people of the 1944 fiscal year” created on August 14, 1944. This set includes documents addressed to the Prime Minister from Welfare Minister Hisatada Hirose and Munitions Minister Ginjiro Fujiwara. The third image in this set shows “The mobilization plan of a people of the 1944 fiscal year that was established to rapidly increase wartime production to promptly address the conditions in the final battle stage.”
