A special celebration for the 2600th anniversary of the enthronement of Emperor Jinmu, which is described in The Nihon Shoki (The Chronicles of Japan), was held on November 10, 1940.

  • Document 1 is issue No. 143 of Shashin Shuho, which was published on November 20, 1940. This issue features photographs of the special celebration for the nation’s 2600th anniversary held in the plaza in front of the Imperial Palace. The structure in the plaza in front of the Imperial Palace seen in the second and third images has been reconstructed into what is currently the Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum, and is used as a visitor center.
  • Document 2 is issue No. 144 of Shashin Shuho, which was published on November 27, 1940. This issue contains photographs of the special celebrations for the nation’s 2600th anniversary held all across the country (see the twelfth and thirteenth images).
  • Document 3 is issue No. 145 of Shashin Shuho, which was published on November 30, 1940. This particular issue was a special edition in celebration of the nation’s 2600th anniversary. It covers various events that were held to celebrate the occasion.
  • Document 4 is a collection of documents drawn up in 1940 regarding the special celebrations for the nation’s 2600th anniversary.
