Timeline - A Window into the Early Showa Period




			The Imperial Rule Assistance Association was organized on October 12, 1940. This association was a national organization established across the country in the midst of government-led political campaigns (new system campaigns) carried out during the Sino-Japanese War.

	Document 1 is issue No. 139 of Shashin Shuho, which was published on October 23, 1940. This issue describes the organization of the Imperial Rule Assistance Association (see the tenth to twelth images). Document 2 is an overview of the questions and answers exchanged at a police department chiefs’ discussion meeting attended by bureaucrats from the Bureau of Police and Public Security of the　Ministry of Home Affairs　and prefectural police department chiefs on October 16 immediately after　the Imperial Rule Assistance Association was established (see the one-hundred and thirty-seventh to the one-hundred and eighty-fourth images).
