 Germany occupied Jiaozhou (Kiaochow) Bay in November 1897 (30th year of Meiji) by using an excuse as a murder case of a German missionary. Subsequently, Germany obtained the right of lease of Jiaozhou (Kiaochow) Bay, and the right of constructing a railway connecting Qingdao as an important base in the bay with Jinan.
