June 2, 1894 Japan made a decision to dispatch military forces to Korea while Qing sent troops to Korea. Title:Policy on dispatching troops in connection with the Korean civil war Reference code: A03023061500 |
@At the Tonghak Peasants' War, the government of Korea had difficulty in putting down the peasants' force and requested Qing for military assistance. As Qing sent its troops to Korea in response, Japan also dispatched troops to Korean Peninsula as counteraction. Subsequently, both Qing and Japan did not withdraw the troops from the Korean Peninsula by checking each other. This became one of the causes of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895. This is the document presented to the Cabinet when Japanese diplomats to Korea made a request for dispatching the troops. |
