Commentary	1948年2月1日、終戦連絡中央事務局の廃止にともない、その後継機関として総理庁外局に設置された（昭和23年政令第22号）。連合国軍と日本政府の正式な連絡窓口であり、行政各庁・国内各地の多岐にわたる連絡事務の総合調整を行った。1949年6月より、所管業務は外務省連絡局へ引き継がれた。
