1947年5月3日に、復員庁史実調査部が資料整理部と改称し、その業務を引き継いだ組織である。連合国軍の要求に基づく旧陸軍関係の史実資料の調製及び整理に関する事務を担当。部長は元陸軍大佐服部卓四郎。
