@When the pro-Japanese faction (Reformist) gained an advantage in Korea after the assassination of Queen Min, King Kojong moved his dwelling to the Russian Legation in Seoul to seek protection by the support of the minor pro-Russian faction. Consequently, the new Korean government was formed under the influence of Russia. @This is a memoir written in 1899 (32nd year of Meiji) by Minister Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Kato Masuo on the Korean situations when he took office in April 1896 (29th year of Meiji). |
