On August 15, 1945, a radio broadcast by the emperor informed the Japanese public that the World War II had come to a close. Still known today in Japan as “the day the war ended,” during the month or so before and after various events occurred amid the efforts directed toward bringing the war to a conclusion. Mainly using materials available through the JACAR database, this video introduces some of the process leading to the war’s end that Japan traveled 80 years ago.
