Suggestions for use

This Special Exhibition provides direct access to the image database of the related official documents either from the table of contents on the top page, the photo gallery, or the events column of the chronological table.

You will need the viewer software "DjVu" in order to access the image database. It can be downloaded free of charge. For details, please refer to the "Beginner's guide" (access from our home page). Images can be downloaded and printed freely. Before doing so however, you are requested to read the "Rules for using the Asian Historical Record Database." If you wish to quote our material or take them up for secondary use, please follow our "Quotation Policy." These can also be accessed from the home page.

Help us improve with your comments.

JACAR has been building up and publicizing on the Internet its digital database which now contains about 350,000 items covering about 4,500,000 images of the original official documents concerning Japan's relations in Asia from the pre-war years. The data base adopts a system whereby keywords are searched from all titles and the first 300 letters from the body of the texts. While this system should enable most documents relevant to a theme to be retrieved, it is possible that some may be left undetected.

If you find through your own search any item that you feel is relevant to an historical theme, please let us know through the "Comments" tab on our home page. We would be happy to take up your suggestions in a future display.

We would like to thank you for visiting this exhibition. We would also greatly appreciate hearing your views and impressions through The Questionnaire Form (access from left hand column) so that we could further improve the exhibition.
