These rules stipulate important items concerning use of the Asian historical record database （including computer system and software. Referred to as "database" hereinafter） constructed by the Japan Center for Asian Historical Records of the National Archives of Japan, an independent administrative institution （referred to as "JACAR" hereinafter）.

The database is for use by the broad public.

On using the database, the user agrees to not do any of the acts listed in the following paragraphs:

1. Misrepresent another person or persons.
2. Make illegal use or do anything to assist illegal use of the database.
3. Wrongfully possess or wastefully use the database.
4. Alter or destroy the program, data, etc., of the database, digitalized materials, and the contents.
5. Do anything else that obstructs the operation of the database.

In case the user does not comply with these rules and acts in violation of these rules or obstructs the operation of the system, the Director General of JACAR reserves the right to deny the said user access.

JACAR shall not be liable for lost profit or any other damage to the user due to inability of utilizing the relevant services of JACAR, resulting from maintenance of system relating to the database, accident, measures stipulated in above Articles etc., suspending information service, etc.

JACAR shall not be concerned with any disputes between the user and a third party incurred by utilizing the information in documents contained in the database.

JACAR does not warrant the completeness or utility of content of documents collected in the database.

Besides rules stipulated above, the Director General of JACAR determines any necessary details concerning the usage of the database.

Supplementary Provisions:
This Rule shall come into force as of April 1, 2011.
